Simple and Cheap Photo Display

I had a gigantic wall in our guest bed that I had to fill, but wasn’t sure how. I didn’t want to spend too much, since we’re renting and I wanted to avoid ordering anything just in case it wouldn’t flow in our next home. The best way I know how to soften up a room is by filling it with photos, but I also didn’t want to fill this wall with frames. After lots of brainstorming, I decided a black and white, unique photo wall would look perfect! Here’s my version of the simple and cheap photo display:

All you need is two pieces of wood, string/yarn, and photos. Literally. That is it. Well, and a hole puncher.

After measuring our wall, we headed to Home Depot and gathered the supplies (we made this shelf the same day so we gathered a ton). We found a beautiful 8″ piece of wood and cut it into two 3″ pieces. It was already the color it is in the photo! Almost a pretty stain.

I knew I wanted to aim to go 5″ across and have four rows of photos, so I found yarn that would give me a ton of extra to wrap around the wood.

The pictures were easy! I ordered 45ish 4×4 black and white photos. You can go through Walgreens ($0.39/each) or Walmart for ($0.18/each).

I punched holes on both sides of my photos, but I didn’t try to make them perfect. I tried not to punch a hole through any faces or awkward spots. If you have to go a little higher or lower, it’s okay! It gives a more casual, messy but cute vibe. Just make sure that both holes are level with one another.

I strung my string through the photos, making sure to lay it out and space it how I would want it. This helped me prepare how to cut my string. I knew I was going to wrap the yarn around the wood rather than try to nail it down somehow, so I left excess on each end.

Once I had them wrapped, I taped down the edge of the yarn to the wood just to temporarily hold it down. Spencer hung the two pieces by drilling in two spots on each piece.

The yarn strips were a few different sizes so I needed to adjust them a little bit which wasn’t super complicated! I was able to push a credit card through the back to get the yarn through in order to tighten them. Make sure that when you wrap the yarn, the first wrap goes behind the wood against the wall. I went over the wood the first time and all of the photos kept flipping. So make sure you wrap under the wood to start!

I honestly just cut the string at the end and tucked whatever was left between the wall and the wood and it’s stayed! I love this simple and cheap photo display so much and so do the guests! Tag me if you choose to remake this!!
